The mission

dlr Mill Theatre is a creative community hub located in the heart of Dundrum. We’ve had the pleasure of partnering with the team since it opened its doors in 2006. In that time, the theatre’s offering has evolved across a diverse range of audiences. The dlr Mill team knew that its online presence was no longer an accurate reflection of the expertise and capabilities behind it. The website needed to work harder as a useful and dynamic resource for its varied audiences.

The process

We identified a number of key objectives that the website had to deliver on. Firstly it needed to serve as a promotional tool to help maximise ticket bookings for the theatre, showcasing and selling the many shows and events that were part of the theatre’s yearly calendar. In tandem we needed to raise the perception of theatre as a vital creative hub in the community that was open to everyone.

We carried out in-depth scoping with the team to ensure we had all our objectives clearly mapped out. Who were we speaking to? How would the site navigate? What messages did we need to communicate? The theatre excels in creating best-in-class in-house productions, specialising in works for younger audiences. Expertise in this area needed to be a key focus. It was important that we hit the right tone for the website’s content too – clear, straightforward and informative, while also capturing the energy and passion of the team behind it all.

The outcome

We built a rich and engaging website for the dlr Mill Theatre with a clearly defined brand language and tone of voice. The UX design provides clear navigation, enabling users to seamlessly find the information relevant to them.

We leveraged the Theatre’s impressive photography bank, enhancing the narrative with high quality images of past productions. From a structural perspective, practical enhancements were made to the CMS, giving the team the autonomy to update the site as needed.

The result? A vibrant new website that embodies the true spirit of the dlr Mill Theatre, asserting its unique position as a leading performance space and a true champion of the arts for both primary and secondary school students and amateur and professional actors alike.
