Youtube Life in a Day

6th Jan, 2011

Last year Youtube asked its users to submit clips of their life on July 24th, 2010. Over 80,000 clips were submitted from 192 countries. Of the 4,500 hours of footage submitted 1125 clips have since been edited into a documentary by Kevin Macdonald (Director of The Last King Of Scotland, Touching The Void) and produced by Ridley Scott. Some of stories that made the final cut include a Korean man who has been cycling the globe for 9 years, a young mother battleing cancer and a free-runner in Moscow who makes the city streets his playground.

The film debuts on January 27th at the Sundance Film Festival and it will be streamed live on Youtube, followed by an online Q&A with 26 of the ‘co-directors’ who were responsible for some of the included clips. At this side of the Atlantic it all starts at  1am (technically the 28th). However, the film will be screened again later on the 28th at the more respectable time slot of 7pm. The film will also receive a cinema release later in 2011.

In the build up to the film’s debut Youtube are releasing a series of clips between now and the 27th. This first one is shot by Toniu Xou and Patricia Marinez del Hoyoa of Spain. In it a young girl climbs a human castle in the small town of San Jaume dels Domenys in the Spanish province of Tarragona.
