How are you ‘Brandishing’ your Logo?

The nature of my work has me take stock of all the happenings in the branding world – what brands are thriving and what brands are going for a facelift! Also, to identify whether a trend is a fad or a timeless technique. Having said that, it’s quite tricky to pick the long-lasting trends from the vast sea of great work. However, after reading through numerous articles, I feel a tad confident talking about the logo design trends that look set to continue in 2019.

1. Simplification: There seems to be a trend to either simplify the existing brand/logo or completely redesigning it. It shows no signs of abating. Uber and American express tweaked and decluttered their logos to freshen them up. Other examples include Fat Face, the US open, Ogilvy, etc.

2. Responsive Logos: This trend is so much fun! It has gained a lot of momentum due to the increase in mobile platforms. The logos adapt their image depending on the data attached. Click on and resize your browser window.

3. Sustainable logo designs: Rather than bringing out a totally different ‘on trend’ logo every couple of years, brand innovation comes from various touchpoints, but specifically NOT the logo. It’s designed to be permanent.

4. Getting playful with fashion logos: Once-sacred logos are now on a short stint of fun, and why not! Brands are trying to connect with the generation who are constantly trying to differentiate themselves.

5. Gradients: Adding gradient effects on your logos to dress it up, colourfully.
